🚀 A major step forward for South Africa’s space industry The Department of Science, Technology and Innovation is supporting plans to upgrade the 41-year-old Houwteq Assembly, Integration and Testing facility into a dedicated satellite-building hub. The initiative aims to strengthen local satellite assembly, integration and testing capabilities while reducing dependence on foreign technologies. According to SANSA’s strategic plan, the upgrades are expected to be completed by the end of 2027, with R62 million allocated to the project. The facility is expected to support South Africa’s satellite build programme and create opportunities for industry development, local businesses, and economic growth. With successful local satellite projects already demonstrating South African engineering excellence, investments in strategic infrastructure such as Houwteq could help position the country as a stronger player in the global space economy. #SpaceIndustry #Innovation #Technology #SouthAfrica #SatelliteEngineering #EconomicDevelopment #SANSA
