Today we publish a new report on AI in UK homecare. It’s the first of its kind to look specifically at AI adoption, outcomes and governance in UK domiciliary care. The sector has already adopted AI. The data we captured shows seven in ten homecare agencies are already using it, with most of those adopting before 2025. Despite the continued narrative that ‘AI is coming’, this report shows how the sector has already moved beyond the theory and deep into practice. The most commonly cited reason for adopting AI (62% of respondents) was not reducing costs or admin. It was about improving care quality. Even more interesting is that among agencies re-inspected by the CQC since adopting AI, 59% of those saw their rating improve. So we find that AI is in domiciliary care, and that it is being used for care delivery. With those points in mind, the third part of the report looks at how a third of those surveyed have no formal governance in place about how AI should be used. For anyone with a role in compliance, a business owner or a nominated individual this report may be a sign to instil a framework now, before the CQC (and the consequences) catch up.
