Why GeneNovate® matters: What researchers from Heidelberg learned beyond the lab What happens when researchers step outside the lab and explore the path from scientific discovery to real-world impact? For Fidel Emmanuel Serrano, Aaron Eidenmüller and Amritha Sathyanarayanan, Postdoctoral Researchers at Heidelberg University, GeneNovate® provided exactly that opportunity. As part of Germany's National Strategy for Gene and Cell Therapies, the programme equips researchers and clinicians with the entrepreneurial skills, networks and mindset needed to translate scientific discoveries into future therapies, products and ventures. Reflecting on their GeneNovate® journey, all three highlighted the value of gaining new perspectives beyond their scientific expertise - from innovation and business development to understanding how research can ultimately reach patients. On 25 June, the GeneNovate® Final Event in Munich will bring together the regional winning teams, showcasing the next generation of innovators in gene and cell therapies. For regions like Rhine-Neckar, with outstanding strengths in life sciences, biotechnology and university medicine, initiatives such as GeneNovate® are essential. They help ensure that excellent science does not stop at publication but creates societal and economic impact.
