There is a huge misconception that #ADHD is just about “being easily distracted” or having too much energy. In reality, especially for adults in the workplace, it’s a constant, exhausting battle with executive dysfunction. It’s not a lack of willpower; it’s literally how the brain processes #dopamine. If you’ve ever felt like you're working twice as hard just to stay at baseline, or if you're trying to understand a colleague who operates a bit differently, here is what is actually going on: 👇 It doesn't look the same for everyone. ADHD generally falls into three buckets: ➡️ Inattentive: This is the quiet one. It looks like missed details, struggling to start a project, or a mind that constantly wanders. It’s often completely missed in adults. ➡️ Hyperactive-Impulsive: This is physical or mental restlessness. Fidgeting, interrupting, or making impulsive decisions. ➡️ Combined: A mix of both, which is what most people end up being diagnosed with. Getting an answer isn't simple. You can't just take an online quiz. A real diagnosis requires a thorough clinical evaluation by a psychologist or psychiatrist. They look at your history all the way back to childhood to see how these traits have impacted your life, relationships, and career. What actually helps day-to-day? Standard productivity advice ("just buy a planner") usually fails people with ADHD. Instead, these strategies actually work: ✅ Body Doubling: Working on a video call or sitting next to someone else who is also working. The quiet accountability does wonders for focus. ✅ Out of sight, out of mind: If a task isn't visually in front of an ADHD brain, it ceases to exist. Use physical sticky notes or visual project boards like Trello. ✅ Micro-steps: Don't write "Write Report" on your to-do list. Write "Open Word Doc and write one paragraph." Lowering the barrier to entry is the only way to beat the paralysis of starting. Neurodiversity isn't something that needs to be "cured" or fixed in the workplace. It just requires a shift in how we manage and support each other. Some of the most creative, hyper-focused, and innovative problem solvers I know have ADHD; they just need the right environment to thrive. If you navigate ADHD, what’s one strategy that actually changed the game for you? #ADHD #ADHDawareness #Neurodiversity #AdultADHD #Mentalhealth #Mentalhealthawareness #startspeakingforyourmentalhealth #dopamine #seekprofessionalhelp #takecareofyourhealth
