The purpose of this initiative, which is supported by the Gates Foundation, is to establish a world-class womenโ€™s health innovation hub that advances early-stage research into scalable solutions for women in need around the world, including low- and middle-income countries. The first project at the new XFem Labs accelerator in Heidelberg is entitled Despite the availability of various contraceptive methods, 257 million women worldwide still face significant barriers to access. Current hormonal contraceptives are often associated with side effects, such as changes in bleeding patterns, resulting in high discontinuation rates. Non-hormonal, female-controlled alternatives remain limited and often challenging, hence there is an urgent need for new options. ๐Ÿ”ฌ We invite transformative research proposals that explore new biological targets, molecular mechanisms, or delivery modalities for continuous and/or on-demand non-hormonal contraception for women. ๐ŸŽฏ Major objectives: ๐Ÿ”ธIdentification and/or validation of innovative non-hormonal mechanisms of action for a continuous and/or on-demand methods (systemic or intravaginal). ๐Ÿ”ธDemonstration of contraceptive efficacy in vitro and/or in vivo, with attention to safety, tolerability, maintenance of a natural bleeding cycle, and reversibility. This call for application presents a unique opportunity for researchers in womenโ€™s health, pharmaceutical sciences, and biotechnology to make a significant impact by joining a globally recognized innovation hub in Heidelberg. ๐Ÿ”‘ How to apply: โžก๏ธ Submit your proposal via our Career Space: https://lnkd.in/es6HTDPk ๐Ÿ“… Deadline: December 7, 2025 ๐Ÿ“„ Your application should include: ๐Ÿ”ธ A 3โ€“5 page project proposal addressing scientific objectives. ๐Ÿ”ธ Your CV, including your publication record. ๐Ÿ† 15 Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a five-day innovation boot camp in Heidelberg from February 9 to 13, 2026.
