Royal visit highlights the importance of biosecurity in outdoor pig production! Dr. Merel Postma, shareholder of Biocheck.Ugent, has dedicated her career to improving animal health and welfare, biosecurity, and responsible pig production. After obtaining her PhD at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine - Ghent University on reducing antibiotic use and improving biosecurity in pig production, Merel continued to put science into practice as Chain Quality Manager at Livar BV. Together with her family and the Cistercian monks of Lilbosch Abbey, she helps run this unique Dutch pork production company, known for its high animal welfare standards and outdoor farming system. Recently, Livar welcomed distinguished guests: King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands visited the Livar farm at Lilbosch Abbey. During the visit, Merel Postma, Frank de Rond, and their daughter Roosmarijn guided the royal couple and their entourage through the farm, showcasing the pregnant sows in the pasture and explaining Livar's approach to sustainable pig production. The visit highlighted the growing recognition of farming systems that combine animal welfare, sustainability, and strong biosecurity—values that are also at the core of Biocheck.Ugent. We are proud to see our shareholder, Dr. Merel Postma, demonstrating how scientific expertise and practical farming can work together to shape the future of livestock production. Important to highlight that Biocheck.Ugent offers a specialized outdoor pig production checklist (https://lnkd.in/eCeTwYn2), enabling objective evaluation and benchmarking of biosecurity on outdoor pig farms. #BiocheckUGent #Biosecurity #AnimalHealth #PigProduction #SustainableFarming #RoyalVisit #AnimalWelfare
