šŸ What do bumblebees really eat? It sounds like a simple question, but surprisingly little is known about exactly how much pollen and nectar bumblebees collect and consume. As part of the European PollinEat project, Biobest researchers Matthias Berthels and Nancy Lenaerts spent two weeks studying bumblebee feeding behaviour at Blueberry Fields in Belgium. The goal is to better understand how bumblebees are exposed to pesticides. Today, risk assessments are still often based on honeybee data, even though bumblebees live, feed and forage differently. Blueberry Fields was the ideal baseline location: the farm grows organically, uses no chemical pesticides and hosts around 20,000 bumblebees for pollination. The collected samples are now being analysed, with results expected later this year. šŸ‘‰ Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/enZ6qih9 #Biobest #Bumblebees #Pollination #PollinEat #Research #SustainableAgriculture
