From chemicals to circularity – closing the loop in pulp production At Billerud, reducing the environmental impact of our operations goes hand in hand with maintaining stable, efficient production. A strong example of this is how we work with chemical recovery. In kraft pulp production, chemicals are essential, but they don’t have to be consumed. Through an advanced recovery process, we regenerate approximately 95% of the active cooking chemicals (white liquor) and return them to production. This creates a highly efficient circular system where resources are continuously reused. The result? ✅ Significant reduction in chemical use ✅ Lower environmental impact ✅ Energy generation integrated into the process ✅ A closed-loop system that supports both sustainability and efficiency Chemical recovery is not just a technical process. It’s a core element of how we move away from fossil dependence and make our production more circular. Sometimes, the most sustainable solution isn’t about replacing resources - it’s about using them again and again. #Billerud #sustainability #circulareconomy #resourceefficiency
