155 years ago, March 21, 1871, James Gordon Bennett, Jr., editor of the New York Herald dispatched one of his top correspondents, Henry Morton Stanley, to East Africa to interview David Livingstone, a Scottish physician and one of the most popular national heroes of late 19th century Victorian Britain. After a long, grueling journey, Stanley finally set eyes on the Scottish explorer on the shore of Lake Tanganyika on October 27, 1871, voicing the following words: ``Dr. Livingstone, I presume?''
