A very few hedge fund founders can match the success of Leopold Aschenbrenner, the former OpenAI researcher who launched his AI-focused firm Situational Awareness with roughly $100 million in 2024. The 24-year-old AI researcher, who received his Bachelor's in Mathematics and Economics from Columbia University, now manages more money than some of the world's well-known hedge fund managers. His hedge fund is up by over 270% this year and has returned over 1,000% after fees since its inception in 2024. Jane Street, one of the world's most secretive trading firms, is also one of the investors in Leopold Aschenbrenner's hedge fund.
