๐ฃ๐ผ๐น๐ถ๐ฐ๐ & ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฐ๐ต ๐ง๐๐ฒ๐๐ฑ๐ฎ๐๐ ๐ก๐ถ๐ด๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฎ is a signatory to the ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ ๐๐ด๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐ and has made clear commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while strengthening climate resilience across key sectors of its economy. These commitments are formally captured in the countryโs ๐ก๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐น๐น๐ ๐๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐บ๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ผ๐ป๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฏ๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ (๐ก๐๐๐), which were updated in 2021 to reflect both current realities and future ambitions. While these may sound like high-level policy directions, they have very real implications for everyday life. Climate action influences how we farm, how we manage water resources, how we produce and access energy, how we protect our environment, and how communities prepare for and respond to increasing climate risks such as flooding, droughts, heatwaves, and land degradation. Nigeriaโs climate priorities focus on critical areas including climate-smart agriculture to support farmers in adapting to changing weather patterns, renewable energy transition to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and improve energy access, forest conservation and sustainable land use to protect ecosystems and reduce emissions, and the development of climate-resilient infrastructure that can better support growing populations and economic activity. The real challenge lies in implementation ensuring that these commitments move beyond documents and translate into tangible support systems, functional structures, and real opportunities that reach farmers, communities, and businesses across the country. ๐๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ถ ๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ป ๐๐ป๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐, we believe climate policy should not remain abstract or distant. It should be experienced in practical ways on farms, within markets, and across communities where its impact can be seen, felt, and sustained over time.
