Continuous learning is one of the best investments you can make and it doesn't have to cost you anything. If you're building your profile for international scholarships, grad school, or just deepening your expertise in agriculture, here are 5 free platforms/courses to start with (certificates included, where honestly free): 1️⃣ FAO eLearning Academy — free courses + free digital certificates from the UN's agriculture body. Strong for anyone interested in food policy or agri-trade. 2️⃣ Alison — Agricultural Science diploma. Course is free; certificate viewable free (PDF has a small fee). 3️⃣ Cursa App — Agriculture Complete, Agribusiness, and more. Free course + free certificate, all through their mobile app. 4️⃣ Coursera (Sustainable Agricultural Land Management, UIUC) — audit free. Apply for Financial Aid to get the certificate free — most people skip this step and pay when they didn't have to. 5️⃣ edX — same principle: audit free, and their financial assistance program can get you the verified certificate at no cost. A quiet reminder: none of these replace real experience. Pair them with a volunteer role, a small project, or applying the skill somewhere visible. That's what actually shows up in a strong SOP — not just a list of certificates, but proof you used what you learned. Save this for later. Tag someone who's building their profile right now.
