🚨 We’re Hiring: Senior Technical Officer – Electron Microscopy πŸ”¬ The Bernal Institute at the University of Limerick is seeking a Senior Technical Officer (Instrument Scientist) in Electron Microscopy (SEM & TEM) to join our dynamic research environment within the Faculty of Science & Engineering. This is a key role supporting our state-of-the-art research infrastructure and vibrant research community. The successful candidate will: Drive innovative research in electron microscopy Train and support researchers in advanced electron microscopy techniques Contribute to high-impact research and publications with PIs Engage with industry partners on applied research challenges Ensure optimal performance and maintenance of cutting-edge instrumentation The Bernal EM facility incorporates a wonderful array of EM capabilities including but no limited to: Thermo Titan THemis wish (Cs)-correctors Thermo Talos F200i (s)TEM Environmental SEM (Arrival Q4 2026) Thermo Helios G5 CX Hitachi SU-70 As part of the Instrument Scientist Team, you will play a vital role in enabling world-class research and innovation at the Bernal Institute. Bernal represents a €50m+ investment in world-class characterisation, modelling and manufacturing facilities and Global research leaders concentrated in 20,000 m of high quality research space, which includes 90 state of the art laboratories. The research equipment and facilities allow researchers from a broad range of expertise: mechanical, chemical engineers, biomedical engineers; physicists; materials scientists, biologists, mathematicians and chemists, to focus on individual research projects as well as large interdisciplinary research programs.
