New research by UC Berkeley Haas Associate Professor Juliana Schroeder and coauthors finds that spoken conversations foster greater understanding and less conflict than written exchanges. Their findings arrive at a pivotal moment: The U.S. is experiencing levels of partisan divide not seen in generations. “There’s some data that suggests political disagreement in the U.S. is at levels close to where they were at the time of the Civil War,” says Schroeder. “And the lines of divide also seem to be increasing globally.” Across multiple studies, voice-based conversations increased understanding and human connection, even when disagreements remained, revealing how the medium of communication itself shapes the outcome of difficult conversations. 🔗 Read the full story on Haas News: https://lnkd.in/gSKagTAE
