Technology doesn't #educate. #Educational #design does. Sometimes I think we forget that when we talk about #simulation — caught up in the #hardware, the #headsets, the #fidelity, when the real work was always the #educational #design underneath. I was invited by Pier Luigi Ingrassia to write about exactly that — and about what a day in this field actually looks like. The #result is now live in SIMZINE's "A Day in the Life" series: a Junior Professor of Healthcare Simulation based in Austria. But it's not really about my schedule. It's about the things that make this #job what it is — #healthcare #students stepping into a #simulation with no instructor in the room, #learning what #responsibility actually feels like. #Interprofessional #training, because patients don't experience care in disciplinary segments. And the question underneath all of it: how does #clinical #competence really develop, and how do we honestly measure it? There's also a moment in there I don't talk about often. An email from a former #student, two days after a #trauma #course, after a real emergency. It's the clearest answer I have to why #simulation exists long before we demand it.
