Everyone’s talking about AI “transforming” the job market but this is what that actually looks like in 2026. 75% of resumes are filtered out before a human even sees them. Not because candidates aren’t qualified, but because they don’t pass the system. At the same time, we’re seeing an “AI backfire” effect: Over-optimized resumes, inflated experience, and hiring processes are slowing down as trust drops. So what’s really changing? 1) It’s no longer enough to “play the game” better 2) You have to stand out outside the system The candidates winning right now aren’t just optimizing keywords they’re: Building proof (portfolios, measurable impact) Leveraging networks and referrals Showing how they think, not just what they’ve done And on the hiring side, the shift is just as real: We’re moving from “model builders” to operators who can actually deploy AI, drive ROI, and connect it to business outcomes. My takeaway: AI isn’t replacing talent it’s raising the bar on what visible, credible, and differentiated talent looks like. If you’re job searching (or hiring), the question isn’t “are you using AI?” It’s: are you relying on it… or using it to actually stand out? If this topic interests you, Ary Aranguiz, CPTD, AIPM, and I will be diving deeper into it at the HR Meets AI event.
