Diesel as high as $3.50 isn’t helping anybody. Australia has a fuel problem — and freight is at the centre of it. But this is not just a cost-of-living issue. This is an economic issue affecting business nation-wide — and Australia’s dependency on freight is far more significant than most people realise. I’m here at Freight Forward at Parliament House in Canberra today to meet with various government ministers and federal politicians, to help shape and influence policy around electrification of transport and Australia’s dependency on imported fuel — which has never been more apparent. The main point we’re making is simple: the technology exists here in Australia to electrify heavy transport. By 2030, the transport sector will be the single biggest emitter and at the same time, fuel will be increasingly expensive under a diesel-dependent model. Janus Electric has the proven ability to convert diesel to electric trucks today. This is what we demonstrated at Parliament House this morning. Fleet operators are ready to do it. We are just waiting on politicians to act and help unlock the capital. Thank you to Senator Michelle Ananda-Rajah, Senator Larissa Waters, Monique Ryan and Ellie Whiteaker for the time and the conversations — and it was great for founder Lex Forsyth to take Michelle and Ellie for a spin. This how how we make the transition to electric trucks happen faster, and it’s encouraging to see a home-grown Australian company helping steer that shift. Let’s align on policy in a way that reflects what’s already inevitable, and give everyone the opportunity to start moving forward. Smart Energy Council
