DIHK #Energiekonferenz 2026 State Secretary Frank #Wetzel (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie): Government will not make a 180-degree turn! My Pepitum beforehand: energy sources must also remain financially viable! Many thanks to State Secretary Wetzel for the very interesting lecture! In terms of content, Wetzel is deeply involved in the topic, but yesterday at the DIHK Energy Conference he roughly outlined the – already known – ideas of the federal government. The #government is obviously keeping a low profile even before the draft laws are published! Here are a few #statements: ▪️Security of supply: Top – priority for Germany! ▪️Competitiveness: Energy prices and efficiency as the key to remaining innovative pioneers! ▪️Government has some big decisions to make in a short term: on grids (expansion), renewable energies, heat, power plant strategy, storage… ▪️Focus on (only) necessary corrections – no 180-degree turn! ▪️Grid charges are too high, and redispatch costs must be reduced at all costs. The focus was on the topic of grid expansion. It is about grid efficiency, cost reduction and who covers the grid expansion costs. Of course, this is all very important. 👉 However, we should not lose sight of the fact that energy sources must also remain financially viable! Among other things, this means: ✅The implementation of two-sided, indexed CfDs and suitably high bid ceilings strengthens bankability and lowers financing costs. ✅By optimizing market design, we can enhance system value and drive cost efficiency. ✅A vital lever in this process is reducing development density, which requires a corresponding amendment to the Site Development Plan (FEP). ✅Implementing CfDs is crucial to increase the realisation probability of awarded projects. ✅We advocate for direct CfD (only) auctions—skipping preliminary market rounds to ensure efficient competition. ✅To streamline the build-out, all sites should be standardized at 1 GW, with a 'one site per bidder' rule to foster a diverse and competitive market. I look forward to the upcoming legislative proposals—and to continuing this important discussion.
