With an acceptance rate below 10%, Hunter College High School is one of the most competitive public high schools in New York City. It’s also one of the least diverse. Some students are trying to change that. In the latest episode of P.S. Weekly, Hunter College High School student and activist Kassidy Khuu joins producers Roberto Bailey and Zoe George to discuss selective high school admissions in New York City and explore how students are fighting for a more equitable system. Their conversation is especially timely as Mayor Zohran Mamdani and his administration back efforts to bolster integration in public schools. 🏫 How does Hunter College High School’s admissions process actually work? 🎓 Who gets access to a “gifted” education, and why? ✊ What are students doing to push for change?
