Black History Fact: Ernest N. Ezeajughi was elected Mayor of the London Borough of Brent, which has a population of 331,000 people, in 2019. He was born in 1960 in Awgbu Town, Anambra State, Nigeria, to an academic and famous politician, Sir Simeon Okeke Ezeajughi. Ezeajughi matriculated at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik) at its main campus in Awka after attending Aguata High School, where he was prominent in student government and studied medical microbiology before graduating in 1998. Nigerian dignitaries, including Ebere Obiano, wife of Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State, were on hand to see Ezeajughi inducted into office on May 1, 2020, after he was elected Mayor for a two-term by his fellow councilors on April 16, 2019. Brent, Ezeajughi remarked at his inauguration, is one of London's most diverse boroughs, with over 100 languages spoken and virtually all people speaking a language other than English at home. He named two charities he plans to assist during his term: The Sickle Cell Society, which collaborates with the Caring Family Enhancement Initiative initiative in Nigeria's Anambra State, and the Jason Roberts Foundation, which advocates against knife and gun crime. #365DaysOfBlackHistory #BlackHistoryFacts #ErnestN.Ezeajughi #ShowThyselfApproved #KnowledgeIsPower #EachOneTeachOne #BLM
