All across the country, Black people are seeking care for mental experiences and encountering a psychiatric system that is traumatizing and harmful. There has been a historical precedent of psychiatric care systems excluding, abusing, and misunderstanding the Black community. It is with gratitude we invite you to the launch of What I Wish My People Had Known – The Psychiatric Green Book: A Guide for Black Folks. Just as the historic Negro Motorist Green Book helped Black travelers safely navigate the U.S. during the Jim Crow era, this guide provides resources, tools, and insight for navigating today’s psychiatric care systems. Join us in LA on Tuesday, July 28 at the Reparations Club for this impactful and important conversation. Together with co-author Kelechi Ubozoh and antiracist psychiatrist Dr. Rupi Legha, we'll explore how Black folks can access mental health systems with greater knowledge, care, and support while honoring the long tradition of Black communities creating pathways to healing outside of systems that have often caused harm. This amazing guide was a collective partnership made possible by contributors from Disability Rights California and Georgia Advocacy Office. Register now at beam.community/events
