And We did certainly create the heavens and earth and what is between them in six days, and there touched Us no weariness. The Quran actually describes two different processes of creation. There is the world of command, the unseen realm, where things happen outside of time and space as we understand them. The ‏روح (Ruh) was created instantly. Angels can travel the entire universe in a single night. That world operates on a completely different logic, one where stages and sequences simply do not apply. Then there is the physical world, and this world moves in stages. Seeds become trees over seasons. Bodies develop over years. The Earth itself formed layer by layer across billions of years. Allah chose to build the material universe through a process, through phases that unfold gradually, because that is how this world was designed to function. The deeper question is why Allah is saying this in Surah Qaf. The Prophet ﷺ is giving dawah. Years are passing. Nothing seems to be changing. People are rejecting the message, and the mission feels like it is going nowhere. In that moment, Allah reminds him: We built the heavens and the earth across stages that spanned billions of years, and none of it exhausted Us. You might feel exhausted by the stage you are in, but Allah will never tire of carrying out His plan. Everything you are living through right now is falling within a much grander timeline. The stages are real, but so is the One managing them. This is from a Q&A session on the Revealed app with Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan. Have a question about an ayah like this one?
