🌾From farm waste to sustainable biofertilizer As the UN declared 2026 the International Year of Women Farmer, we take this opportunity to highlight a farmer‑led innovation creating real impact on the ground. In partnership with iDE (International Development Enterprises), we support the growth phase of the PRERNA project which stands for “Promoting Resilience and Enterprise Development through Local Resource Utilization in Nepal”. The project promotes community-led fertilizer enterprises using local resources to strengthen rural livelihoods in Nepal. Working with smallholder farmers, especially women through cooperatives in Kaski and Syangja districts, the project introduces Tricho‑vermicomposting (TVC), a climate‑friendly practice that turns farm waste into high‑quality compost. Used as an alternative to chemical fertilizers, TVC not only improves soil fertility and crop productivity, but also generates additional income through compost sales. As a result, the approach has contributed to a 17% increase in crop yields, supported the establishment of 10 community‑led fertilizer enterprises, and reached nearly 6,700 farmers. PRERNA is a great example of how women farmers, with the right tools and knowledge, can transform local resources into a lasting impact on livelihoods, health and sustainable agriculture. #WomenFarmers #InnovativeAgriculture #YearOfTheWomanFarmer #IYWF2026
