It’s easy at times to focus on unfinished work and it’s for this exact reason that it’s important to look back periodically, #reset and #reassess. Over the last year or so: We welcomed 2 substantive #consultant #colleagues with a #paediatric #neurosurgery subspecialty interest. We continued to deliver the #undergraduate neurosurgery #curriculum and what a privilege it has been to witness young colleagues quench their thirst for #knowledge. Contributed once again to the International Federation of Neuroendoscopy (IFNE) course in Naples. Attended the Society of British Neurological Surgeons meeting and presented our work on #fetal, #endoscopic and #minimally #invasive #neurosurgery. Attended the #British #Paediatric #Neurosurgery #Group meeting and benchmarked #data and #outcomes. Presented work at the joint #Colombian #Neurosurgical #Society and #World #Association of #Lebanese #Neurosurgeons #Meeting. Took part and represented the #UK in the European Society of Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy (ESUBE) meetings. Presented work at the European Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery-ESPN. Presented work and gave invited lectures at the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS) meeting. Presented work at the International Federation of Neuroendoscopy (IFNE) meeting and was voted in as co-chair of education. Presented work and gave invited lectures at the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies and was voted in as co-chair of the #Neuroendoscopy #Committee. Gave an invited lecture at the #Japanese #Neurosurgery #Society meeting. Gave an invited talk at the #British #Neuroendoscopy #Society meeting and helped build ties with the #international neuroendoscopy society. Celebrated 30 years of #neurosciences at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust having had the privilege to be part of the unit since my time in 1997 as a #medical #student. Supported colleagues in #Tunisia, #Egypt, #Nepal and #Kuwait. Established our #Global #Neurosurgery #Forum hosted by #Endoscopy in #Neurosurgery and watched it grow to be attended by colleagues from all over the world. Hosted our annual #Endoscopy in #Neurosurgery course. Completed our 44th #fetoscopic #repair of #open #neural #tube #defect (#spina #bifida) and further developed the technique with the use of #bipolar #laparoscopic #scissors (Guenter Bissinger Medizintechnik GmbH). Published 11 papers including our #modification of the #neuroendoscopic #aspirator (Söring GmbH) and the #endoscopic #transchoroid #approach to the #third #ventricle. Finally, managed some non-neurosurgical pursuits with funds raised for King's College Hospital Charity in the process. Nothing like hanging in midair to keep one firmly grounded, offer perspective and allow the aforementioned reset!
