How are deprescribing guidelines implemented in practice? A new study by Justin Cheng, Danijela Gnjidic, Stephanie Mathieson, Barbara Farrell, Lisa McCarthy, Wade Thompson, and Carl Schneider used the RE-AIM framework to examine how organisations disseminate and support deprescribing guidelines. 📊 Key findings • Most organisations do not routinely monitor guideline uptake or clinical outcomes • Limited organisational planning and evaluation may hinder long-term implementation • Centralised decision-support tools and stronger leadership were identified as key needs • Patient and carer engagement remains underutilised despite its potential to improve adoption These findings provide practical insights for policymakers and healthcare organisations aiming to embed deprescribing into routine clinical care.
