How can patient complaints help us better understand medication errors and improve patient safety? In the recent study, Understanding Medication Errors through Patient Complaints in a Danish University Hospital, Olga Tchijevitch, Søren Birkeland, Lars Morsø, and Søren Bie Bogh investigated medication errors using both the official hospital safety incident reporting system and patient healthcare complaints from a Danish university hospital. 📊 Key findings: • Among more than 6,000 patient complaints, 310 involved medication-related problems. Detailed review identified 202 medication errors. • Complaints were more likely to concern medications used for psychotic disorders or epilepsy. • Patient complaints revealed important safety issues that were not always captured through traditional reporting systems. These findings highlight the value of incorporating the patient perspective into medication safety monitoring. Patient complaints can complement existing incident reporting systems and help identify important gaps in healthcare quality and safety. #adverseevents #medicationerrors #patientcomplaints #patientsafety Read the article 👇 https://lnkd.in/e7sz939Y
