It is always nice to visit EUIPO - European Union Intellectual Property Office in Alicante, even if only virtually this time. I spent the entire day yesterday representing ECTA (official) and its #Anticounterfeiting Committee at the European #Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights Working Groups Meeting. First, the Common Session, which was opened by the EUIPO Deputy Executive Director Andrea Di Carlo and moderated by PATRICIA GARCIA-ESCUDERO MARQUEZ, supported by Stephanie R.. Andrea’s informative and inspirational welcome speech was followed by a number of presentations and reports, covering the following topics: • European Commission update (Claudia Martinez Felix of DG GROW and Harrie Temmink of EUIPO, plus Corina Maria Mocanu and Katarina Barathova of DG AGRI) • latest trends in #IP enforcement (ARTECHE ARBIZU Blanca and Juan Luis Gutierrez of EUIPO, Antonio De Cristofaro of the Italian Guardia di Finanza and Delphine Sarfati-Sobreira of UNIFAB - Union des Fabricants) • EUIPO #Copyright Knowledge Centre (Véronique Delforge of EUIPO and Willem Alink of DG CONNECT) • EUIPO-OECD study on #counterfeiting and abusive labour practices (Piotr Stryszowski of OECD - OCDE and Nathan W. of EUIPO) • Studies on #influencers and IP (Yasen Gyurov of EUIPO and Tatiana Sá Marques of WiseShape) Then, the #Enforcement Working Group Meeting, moderated by Blanca Arteche, with the updates on: • the EU Commission’s #AI driven tool for non-compliance (Vanessa Capurso of DG GROW and Anthony Manuguerra of EUIPO) • IP Enforcement Tool / #IPEP (Guillermo Mateo of EUIPO) • studies on #SME access to IP enforcement (Veronica Peral Serrano of EUIPO) • training and education platform for enforcers (Oliver Csiki of EUIPO) • current and future actions by EUIPO in the framework of the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats – EMPACT (Bérengère Dréno of EUIPO) The last agenda item was then developed in three discussion groups and my group, moderated by Stephan Edelbroich of EUIPO, was focused on the scope and objectives of analyses of damage and loss in IP crime cases (the discussion was intended as an introduction to the new research project within the #EMPACT framework). #EUIPO #ECTA #IPCrime #Trademark
