Gerald, I applaud you for having the courage to post this and give your thoughts. It's not only in Sports that this mentality is present but in other aspects of life as well, business, literary pursuits, the list goes on ! The problem is, it doesn't really affect you and I, who've either comes to grips with, or have learned to navigate through this behaviour. What is alarming is that it sends a subtle message to our children and the young adults, that they are destined to be judged as not having certain qualifications when it comes to intellectual pursuits. We have to find a way as adult Black and proud humans to rewrite this narrative, no-one will do it for us ! Once again, great post and I'm very happy that you're involved in the struggle !
