Dynacal D+ in Practice: A Proactive Approach to Layer Flock Management at Mourne Livestock Conor and John from Mourne Livestock were the first producers on the island of Ireland to introduce Dynacal D+ into their laying flocks. What began as a solution to declining eggshell quality has evolved into a proactive flock management strategy, delivering consistent results across successive crops. First Crop Dynacal D+ was introduced at 55 weeks of age to address declining shell quality. Administered at 250g per 1,000L of water for 5 days every 4 weeks, the programme delivered a noticeable improvement in eggshell quality and helped maintain flock performance later into lay. Second Crop Building on the success of the first flock, Dynacal D+ was introduced earlier at 35 weeks of age. Birds received 150g per 1,000L for 5 days every 4 weeks, increasing to 250g per 1,000L from 60 weeks through to depopulation. This preventative approach supported shell quality and production before challenges emerged. Current Crop Following the positive results achieved previously, the programme was introduced even earlier. Thanks to the support of Corby Rock Eggs, birds received Dynacal D+ from placement through the first four weeks at 125g per 1,000L of water. Following transfer to Mourne Livestock in April, the same programme was repeated for 5 days at week 16. Today, at 26 weeks of age, the flock is performing above average. From 35 weeks onwards, Dynacal D+ will continue at 125g per 1,000L for 5 days every 4 weeks through to depopulation. This case study demonstrates how flock management can evolve through data, experience and continuous improvement. A programme that started as a corrective measure has become a tailored preventative strategy, adapted to the breed, age, production stage and objectives of the flock.
