We're proud to share that our Canvey Island Southern Shoreline project has won the Innovation in Climate Resilience award at the CIWEM (The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management) Flood & Coast Excellence Awards. Delivered on behalf of the Environment Agency, the project is helping protect local communities from the impacts of climate change while improving long-term coastal resilience. A key factor in the project's success was the ability to draw on capabilities from across Balfour Beatty, including a pioneering hydrogen trial delivered with our Asset & Technology Solutions business, demonstrating how innovation can support more sustainable infrastructure delivery. The project also stands out for its exceptional delivery performance, becoming the only Environment Agency project over £50m to be completed both on programme and under budget, despite challenging tidal working conditions, complex design requirements and extensive stakeholder engagement.
