Procurement Role in Quality Management: With today’s supply chain extending beyond four walls of the organization, maintaining a desired level of quality in a service or product has become more important, in fact imperative. Procurement folks doesn’t need to clutch all the microdetails of the quality requirements but can tag up with quality experts to visit supplier plants, their process and ect. My suggestions based on my experience: Have a site visit to see they do to ensure quality rather than asking them in verbal. Check if they have a control plan for their critical process – This will determine whether supplier understand what must controlled to produce a product. Manufacturing set up and instructions they follow. Ask for how they evaluate whether the products they produce conform to the quality standards. This is to ensure they have a system in place. Ask for how re-work is managed and what percentage of rework is produced. Just to know how they perform continuous improvement. Basically, any supplier who has a good control system, measurement plan will provide an environment where any quality related problems can be handled and resolved. Any point to be added on the above check list? Thoughts? #procurement #quality #supplychain #inspection #manufacturing
