How does one ensure capacity design and structural safety under intense seismic actions, when geometry of reinforced concrete Core Walls diverge from simple rectangular cross-sections ? 📈🏢 In this lecture for the Serbian Association for Earthquake Engineering (SUZI)—which I delivered some time ago, yet remains highly relevant to today's complex design challenges—I addressed this by outlining practical calculation steps under Eurocode 1998-1. Fully utilizing complex geometry of Core Walls, as an integral section, has the potential to deliver safer designs with lower material quantities and, consequently, a reduced carbon footprint.
