"Outcomes don't disappoint us — our expectations about them do." This line from Vishwanath Alluri's book launch — The Enlightened Manager at India International Centre — has stayed with me. As management students, we spend years studying markets, consumers, and competition. But how much time do we actually spend understanding ourselves? A few things that hit differently that evening: Expectations and disappointment aren't opposites. They live together. What matters is how you respond when reality doesn't match the plan. Self-awareness isn't a soft skill. It's quietly one of the most strategic ones — shaping how you lead, decide, and adapt under pressure. The hardest thing to manage often isn't the team or the project. It's yourself. We're trained to run PESTLE analyses and map consumer journeys — but internal clarity, emotional intelligence, and mindset often determine whether execution actually succeeds. Grateful to Mr Vishwanath Alluri, Mr Gautam Chikermane, and Mr Mohit Bhatnagar for the perspective. And to IBS Gurgaon's Local Immersion Cell for creating space for this kind of learning. Management isn't just about managing businesses. It starts with managing yourself. #PGPM #IBS #ICFAI #Marketing #SelfAwareness #ProfessionalDevelopment #LearningExperience #IBSGurgaon
