Public safety technology helps protect life in many ways, including the most unexpected. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood described Deputy José Rivera’s survival as a “miracle in the line of duty.” The suspect fired several shots, including one that struck Rivera’s Axon body-worn camera. We are incredibly grateful that Deputy Rivera is safe and thankful for the deputies who acted quickly to move him out of harm’s way. We wish him a full and speedy recovery.
