What happens to global risk when societies stop agreeing on reality? In AXA’s 2025 Future Risks Report, we asked about perceptions of social fragmentation. The numbers tell a stark story: only 1 in 10 respondents believe their society is still united around shared values. Growing social fragmentation is compounding the world’s vulnerability to risk. Economic inequality, institutional mistrust, polarization and misinformation are no longer separate issues, they reinforce one another.
