Walk across the tarmac at Red Sea International Airport and the energy story looks nothing like a traditional Gulf hub. The terminal and airfield run on power generated by more than 760,000 solar panels, supported by one of the world’s largest off-grid battery systems. Red Sea Global, the airport’s developer, has said the airport “will be powered using renewable energy alone,” part of its plan for the entire destination to operate on 100% renewable electricity.
