Construction Resumes on the Unfinished Section of the H-31 Dnipro – Tsarychanka – Kobeliaky – Reshetylivka Highway Today, the city of Dnipro serves as the eastern stronghold of Ukraine’s resistance against russia’s invasion. Reliable and fast transport links between the capital and Dnipro are therefore of critical importance. In 2022, traffic was opened on the first section of the newly built H-31 Dnipro – Tsarychanka – Kobeliaky – Reshetylivka highway within Dnipropetrovsk Region. This modern Category I expressway was constructed by our company in accordance with international standards. However, this solved the problem only partially. Construction on Phase II of the project – a 30-kilometer section extending from the Dnipro–Donbas Canal to the border with Poltava Region – has been suspended for five years. As a result, traffic is still forced to use the old alignment – a narrow, deteriorated road passing through populated areas. Heavy freight traffic continues to damage the pavement while creating inconvenience and safety risks for local residents. The road is in poor condition and has long required major rehabilitation. In 2021, our company completed a substantial volume of works on Phase II of the project: topsoil stripping was completed; cuts up to 12 meters deep were excavated; more than 1.4 million cubic meters of embankment were constructed; 27 out of 28 reinforced concrete culverts of various diameters were installed; three monolithic overpasses were completed to 90% of their design scope; a monolithic tunnel-type underpass for agricultural machinery was fully completed, while the remaining structures are at the stage of retaining wall concreting; four corrugated steel underpasses were installed; foundations and supports for a 600-meter viaduct were constructed; 6.9 km of pavement base layers and 5.2 km of lower and intermediate asphalt concrete layers were completed. Given the substantial progress already achieved, there is now an opportunity to make every effort to partially open the Phase II section of the H-31 highway to traffic by the end of the year, albeit with certain operational restrictions. Construction activities have therefore resumed. Currently, the company is: constructing embankments and grading slag aggregate layers using machinery equipped with automated control systems; completing one of the monolithic tunnels designed to connect local communities; carrying out waterproofing works on reinforced concrete drainage culverts; installing curb stones along sections where asphalt pavement has already been laid.
