Vanessa Staderini receives the EMVA Young Professional Award 2026. 🏅 Another outstanding achievement for the AIT Center for Vision, Automation & Control: Vanessa Staderini has received the EMVA - European Machine Vision Association Young Professional Award 2026 in recognition of her work "Integrated Planning and Optimization Framework for Robotic Visual Inspection." The award honors outstanding scientific achievements by early-career researchers in the field of machine vision. Vanessa Staderini's research combines robotics, computer vision, and control engineering to develop intelligent solutions for automated industrial inspection. After becoming the first woman to successfully complete her PhD at the AIT Center for Vision, Automation & Control, she continues her research as a Scientist at AIT, focusing on robotic inspection systems for demanding manufacturing environments. Her work bridges cutting-edge research and industrial deployment. The award-winning research presents an innovative planning framework for robotic visual inspection in industrial manufacturing. The system automatically plans the entire inspection process – from selecting the optimal camera viewpoints to calculating efficient, collision-free robot trajectories. At the same time, it considers component geometry, the required imaging resolution, lighting and material properties, as well as the robot's kinematic constraints. The planning process is based on digital CAD models of the components. By intelligently combining optimization, computer vision, and robotics, the framework enables faster, more precise, and more cost-efficient inspection processes. The robot- and sensor-independent approach has been successfully validated on multiple robotic platforms, enabling reliable quality inspection with shorter inspection times, lower resource consumption, and improved process reliability.
