The Australian Government’s Working for Women: A Strategy for Gender Equality (the strategy) was launched 2 years ago, on International Women’s Day. To mark the occasion, we’re highlighting the strategy’s 5 priority areas, including unpaid and paid care. Under the strategy, support for families to better balance work and care includes: 👪 continuing to expand the Government-funded paid parental leave (PPL) scheme to 26 weeks by 1 July this year 👪 including four weeks of PPL reserved for each parent – sending a strong signal to men that their role as carers is valued 👨👩👦 adding superannuation on PPL started to help reduce the impact of parental leave on parent’s retirement incomes and reducing the retirement gender gap.
