Dear Families, I hope everyone has had a positive start to the school year. For some families, including ours, the beginning of the year has been more challenging than expected. Nearly two weeks in, and out of nine school days, we’ve managed three. We’re choosing to celebrate those three days, because every step forward matters, even though, of course, we hope for more. School refusal is very real and deeply challenging for the families experiencing it. It can arise at any stage of a child’s schooling, and often families don’t have a clear answer as to why it has started. That uncertainty can make it even harder. If this is something your family is facing, please know you are not alone. There are many online resources available that may offer guidance and reassurance. Keep the lines of communication open with your school, and seek professional support if you are able to. And remember, the Australian Parents Council is always here to listen, support and advocate for families. With understanding and encouragement, Jenny Branch-Allen President Australian Parents Council
