Associate Professor Robert Wellington studies the worlds people build through art, and what those worlds reveal about power, taste and society. An art historian and researcher in the ANU Centre for Art History and Art Theory, his research explores the visual and material culture of 17th and 18th century France, including the enduring influence of Versailles. From paintings and architecture to fashion, interiors and design, Robert examines how objects carry meaning and how beauty, symbolism and status are woven into everyday life. Through his research and teaching, he brings a sharp, contemporary lens to historical cultures, showing how the past continues to define the way we see and understand the world today.
