Protecting Australia’s biosecurity system starts with people. The Biosecurity On Country Program is building a culturally capable workforce by strengthening pathways for First Nations participants into biosecurity roles, grounded in connection to Country and real‑world experience. Co-designed with the Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council, the program combines accredited training, cultural support and hands-on operational exposure to prepare participants for careers as Biosecurity Officers. By bringing together community partnership, cultural knowledge and frontline capability, the program is strengthening Australia’s biosecurity system while supporting long-term career opportunities.
