Meet Jess! She's a dedicated veterinary nurse and lifelong poultry lover who knows firsthand the joys of raising birds. Growing up on a hobby farm sparked her passion for animals, which she now shares with her daughter Lola. Jess also recognises that bird flu is a risk all poultry keepers need to be aware of. “What worries me most about bird flu is how easily it spreads. Our birds love free-ranging, and the idea of losing birds we’ve raised would be heartbreaking.” “To protect our flock, we keep wild birds out of the pen, cover food and water, quarantine new birds and keep up good hand hygiene. At the clinic, we use PPE and isolate any sick birds straight away. Education is a big part of it too, helping clients understand what to look out for.” Australia remains free of H5 bird flu. Everyone has a role in preventing bird flu and small actions can make a big difference.
