Yesterday, the Australian Energy Regulator approved $๐Ÿฎ.๐Ÿฒ ๐—ฏ๐—ถ๐—น๐—น๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป for AusNet to maintain and upgrade the electricity distribution network across eastern and northern Victoria ๐—ผ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜…๐˜ ๐—ณ๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ ๐˜†๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜€. The investment will help support safe and reliable services, increase network capacity, strengthen resilience to extreme weather and prepare for rising demand driven by electrification and population growth. While the decision is an improvement on the draft determination, it is $๐Ÿด๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฌ๐—บ ๐—น๐—ผ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ถ๐—ป๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ ๐—”๐˜‚๐˜€๐—ก๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐—ฝ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—ฑ โ€“ which will make meeting evolving customer needs more challenging. For example, addressing the low voltage network issues and capacity requirements to address the rapid electrification we are seeing will be tough. Planning for an electricity network that must remain reliable today while also preparing or a rapidly changing future is complex.ย We will now review the decision in detail and consider the implications for our customers and communities. Our focus remains on delivering reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity for the communities we serveย โ€“ today and as Victoriaโ€™s energy system continues to change. ๐Ÿ”— More on AusNetโ€™s response to the AERโ€™s decision: https://lnkd.in/g7mcDN3u
