On the 25th of July, RAAF Base Tindal will host the 18th 17 vs 75SQN Annual Charity Rugby League match to honour Corporal Jason Ruhan and Flight Sergeant Paul Sletten, who unfortunately lost their respective battles with cancer. This match was originally started for base members to honour their fallen mates and in recent years, has become a community event to raise funds for Cancer Council NT. Cancer affects nearly every family in some way. This event provides a chance for the Tindal community to show its support, raising much needed funds that are directly reinvested into local cancer services, support programs, and research initiatives through Cancer Council NT. In 2025, we were able to raise $69,000 for the Cancer Council NT, providing critical upgrades to the local community cancer treatment facility. Having a local cancer treatment facility in Katherine allows families from Katherine and surrounding communities within a 100km radius to access treatment closer to home, negates the need to travel to Darwin, and reduces the time spent away from their communities; which is vital in a time when community support is central to their welfare.
