1.6 million cubic meters of air. Per hour. That's six hot-air balloons. Every minute. Today, we inaugurated the expansion stage of our Reducing Diffuse Emissions (RDE) system at Aurubis Hamburg. Here's what's behind the system: 💨 The system captures diffuse emissions directly at the source from our copper smelter, treats and returns them to production. With stage 2 now complete, RDE is reducing diffuse emissions by around 80 %, doubling the performance of stage 1, which went live in 2021. ⭐ What makes it unique: RDE combines technologies that have never been used together before. Its volume and speed make it one of the most powerful systems of its kind in the world. ♻️ Around 19,000 filter elements remove even the finest particles and the metals recovered during filtration go straight back into production. Environmental protection and resource efficiency in a single closed loop. ⚙️ Fully automated and demand driven, the system is highly energy efficient. Proof that industry and environmental protection can go hand in hand — even in an urban hub like Hamburg.
