AI is developing faster than the way we talk about it. For us, becoming an AI‑empowered company is not about more tools. It is about AI‑empowered people and processes that deliver measurable value. And that is the real challenge: formal social dialogue evolves more slowly than technology. If we want AI to scale responsibly, we need to actively close that gap. AI creates value in business – in real use cases, real work environments, and real teams. But transformation is not one-dimensional. ai:conomics takes a dual lens: it looks at organizations and business, and at people and their work. Both matter – and they are not the same. This is also where the “employability paradox” comes in: while organizations must invest in skills and learning at scale, responsibility cannot rest on individuals or companies alone. Shaping the future of work is a shared task. Last week in Maastricht, at the 40‑year celebration of ROA at Maastricht University, we discussed exactly this at the intersection of science, policy and business. As part of our ai:conomics engagement, Maastricht University is accompanying our M365 Copilot rollout with surveys and interviews to generate scientific evidence for responsible scaling.
