I’ll be honest — I plan to attend the 2026 World Cup this summer. It’s a once-in-a-generation event. But I couldn’t ignore the contradictions anymore. A tournament that calls itself the “World Cup” is being hosted by a nation that has suspended visa processing for 75+ countries. Fans from Iran, Haiti, and Ivory Coast may not even be allowed in to watch their own teams play. So I wrote about it. About the travel bans, the gun violence, the Epstein hearing, and what it all means for a tournament that’s supposed to belong to everyone. The question isn’t whether America deserves to host it. It’s whether America understands what hosting it means.
