A powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of the Philippines on 8 June — and the effects were felt all the way here in Tāmaki Makaurau. Around 12pm, almost all our deep groundwater monitoring bores recorded impacts from the earthquake. Groundwater levels sharply rose or fell as a result of pressure waves from the earthquake It's a fascinating reminder that our environmental monitoring network is constantly tracking what's happening beneath our feet, collecting long-term environmental data that helps inform decisions for Tāmaki Makaurau. #Auckland #Data #Monitoring #Earthquake
