Djibouti keeps the Horn moving. As the Republic of Djibouti marks 49 years of independence, the Department for Infrastructure and Energy recognises the country’s role in connecting the Horn of Africa to global trade. The electrified Addis Ababa to Djibouti railway, Africa’s first cross-border electrified line, and the Port of Doraleh together carry more than 90 per cent of landlocked Ethiopia’s trade to the sea, cutting a three-day road journey to under a day by rail. Jointly owned by Djibouti and Ethiopia, the corridor is a working example of regional integration. As a PIDA priority corridor, it advances the Second Ten-Year Implementation Plan of Agenda 2063, linking the Horn of Africa to global markets. The Department, as secretariat to this agenda, continues to support Member States in building the corridors that move African trade. Republic of Djibouti.
